Entropy

This is an example of a gaseous system moving toward thermodynamic equilibrium. I simulate 50 colliding particles in a box. The distribution of initial velocities is bimodal: several particles at rest and 5 fast particles. As time passes, kinetic energy is redistributed among the particles through collisions and the entropy of the system increases. In idealized systems, the distribution of velocities will tend toward the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution.
